Woodchuck Hill Road Bridge Restoration Announcement

Using State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) from the American Rescue Plan Act and grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Town of Newport has restored the Woodchuck Hill Road Bridge in partnership with Slate Hill Constructors, Inc. and Plumley Engineering, P.C.

Maintaining and revitalizing our Town’s infrastructure is essential in enabling continued ease of travel on our roads and preservation of our Town’s historic scenery. Woodchuck Hill Road Bridge had damaged abutments and wing walls, which have been removed and replaced with new retaining walls and rip-rap embankment erosion detail. These repairs not only maintain a long-standing bridge in our community but will also make it more resilient for years to come.

I would like to thank former Supervisor Michael McEvoy, Highway Superintendent Jason Coffin, Deputy Clerk Nanette Roesler, the FEMA, and all the contractors and engineers who helped this project come to fruition.

All my best,
Nathaniel Lowell
