NOTICE OF JOINT PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING THE FORMATION OF A

JOINT FIRE DISTRICT IN A PORTION OF THE TOWN OF NEWPORT, A PORTION

OF THE TOWN OF NORWAY, AND IN THE VILLAGE OF NEWPORT

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that the Town Board of the Town of Newport, the Town

Board of the Town of Norway, and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Newport, have

agreed by joint resolution dated June 6, 2017 to consider proposing the establishment

of a joint fire district and that said boards shall hold a Joint Public Hearing on

Wednesday June 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town of Norway Community Center

3114 Military Rd. Newport, NY 13416, for the purpose of hearing all persons interested

in the establishment of a joint fire district and for considering if the establishment of a

joint fire district is in the public interest.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the boundaries of the proposed joint fire

district are briefly described as follows: all that area and properties within the Town of

Newport currently designated and referred to as constituting and comprising Newport

Fire Protection Districts FD160 and FD170; all that area and properties within the Town

of Norway currently designated and referred to as constituting and comprising the

Newport Fire Protection District; and the entirety of the area and properties constituting

and comprising the Village of Newport.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the objects for which it is proposed that

a joint fire district be established is to provide for a uniform, equitable, and stable

system for the governance and funding of fire protection and emergency services as

provided by law and the purposes for which it is proposed that a joint fire district be

established is to ensure the continued provision of fire protection and emergency

services by the dedicated volunteers serving the community by establishing a board of

fire commissioners of the joint fire district to serve as the authority having jurisdiction

over the provision of such services and operations as provided by law.
