Board Openings for Town of Newport Residents

We currently have a few openings available on our various Boards as listed below. Any Town of Newport, NY resident interested, in serving their community, should send a Letter of Interest to the Newport Town Clerk, PO Box 519, Newport, NY 13416 or email at [email protected].

Zoning Board of Appeals: (one Alternate Board Member) This Board is charged with reviewing and deciding Area and Use Variances, as well as, interpreting the local Zoning Code. Must have 4 hours Board approved training annually or as otherwise determined by the Town.

Board of Assessment and Review: (Three Board Member positions) This Board, commonly referred to as the Grievance Board, meets once a year in May and reviews complaints in regards to property assessments. Certified training is a requirement (one session) and is provided to the Members by the Town.

Planning Board: (one Alternate Board Member position) This Board conducts Site Plan review protocols and makes determinations on Special Use Permit applications. It will also make recommendations to the Town Board in regards proposed amendments of Town Zoning Ordinance. Must complete 4 hours of Town approved training annually or as otherwise determined by the Town.
