2018 ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE NEWPORT JOINT FIRE DISTRICT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Election of the Newport Joint Fire District will take place on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at The Newport Fire Station located at 7370 State Route 28, Newport, New York 13416 for the purposes of:  1) electing one Commissioner for a five (5) year term, commencing January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2023; 2) electing one Commissioner for a four (4) year term, commencing January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2022; 3)  electing one Commissioner for a three (3) year term, commencing January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2021; 4) electing one Commissioner for a two (2) year term, commencing January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2020; 5) electing one Commissioner for a one (1) year term, commencing January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2019.

Pursuant to Town Law Sections 174(2) and 189-e, the candidate receiving the highest vote tally shall be elected to a term of five years; the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes for the office of fire commissioner shall be elected to a term of four years; the candidate receiving the third highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of three years; the candidate receiving the fourth highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two years, and the candidate receiving the fifth highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of one year.

In order for their name to appear on the ballot, a candidate for the office of Fire District Commissioner must file his or her name with the Secretary of the Newport Joint Fire District by mailing the same to Joseph De Francisco, C/O Newport Joint Fire District, P.O. Box 321, Newport, NY  13416.  Such filings must be postmarked or delivered no later than November 21, 2018.

Only those persons who are residents of the Newport Joint Fire District on or before November 13, 2018 and who are also registered to vote with the Herkimer County Board of Elections on or before November 19, 2018 shall be eligible to vote in this election.
